• Pre-Conference Workshop: Power in Practice – Leveraging Privilege and Risk in Philanthropy

The fee for this pre-conference workshop is not included in the main conference registration fees.  Please see below to register.

Privilege and risk in philanthropy are dynamics that are being disrupted in foundations to set the stage for responsive risk-taking. Learn how to recognize how the power of privilege can unintentionally prevent your organization from growing and achieving their goals. Join the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) for an interactive program with peers and a panel of sector leaders on how to disrupt this dynamic and set the stage for responsive risk-taking. Drawing from NCRP’s toolkit for grantmakers and consultants to grantmakers, Power Moves: Your essential philanthropy assessment guide for equity and justice, and Equity in the Center’s Awake to Woke to Work: Building a Race Equity Culture report, attendees will leave with practical peer insights and resources.

By attending this workshop, you will be able to:

    • Reveal avenues for risk-taking within roles and institutions (e.g., application requirements, grants review criteria, due diligence processes)
    • Advance risk-taking in grants management through implementing successful strategies
    • Re-conceptualize “risk” within roles and institutions, using practical insights and resources for advancing discussion

Presenters: Ashley Clark, Knowledge and Grants Manager, Libra Foundation; Caitlin Duffy, Senior Associate for Learning and Engagement, National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy; Sara Guillaume, Portfolio Director, Colorado Health Foundation; and Andrew Plumley, Senior Program Manager, Equity in the Center
